JO SITTENFELD

Jo is a visual storyteller primarily working for educational & nonprofit clients. She’s spent the past two decades in school settings. Her first full-time job was as an assistant teacher in a middle school special education classroom. After that she taught high school art for 3 years, then at RISD for a decade before becoming RISD’s staff photographer.

Jo works to understand the mission of each institution and – with honesty, integrity and empathy – capture imagery that conveys what’s happening inside their walls to folks on the outside. She brings her superpowers of deep curiosity, thoughtful observation and creative documentation to each job.

Her clients include RISD, Williams College, North Bennet Street School, Codman Academy, Bridge Boston Charter School, St George’s School, Nowell Leadership Academy, Sociedad Latina, The Steppingstone Foundation, Providence Country Day, The French American School of RI, Alma Del Mar, St Andrew’s School, and many other charter & independent schools in New England. Her work has been published in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Forbes Magazine, Ladies Home Journal and The Wall Street Journal.  Jo received her BA summa cum laude from Princeton University in 2002 and her MFA in photography from RISD in 2008.
